I live in a suburb of Osaka, and can provide a guide service for living in Osaka and Kyoto, we call them Kansai.

As far as observation on foreigners living in Osaka so far, I noticed that young single and some young couple tend to live in the urban area of Osaka while family and some young couple tend to live in the suburb of Osaka, such as Suita, Toyonaka, Mino and Ikeda.

There are many information on Osaka or Kyoto available on internet and below are some of them to understand what Osaka and Kyoto look like.

In the Kansai region where Osaka and Kyoto are located, it is quite easy to access these cities by train with less than an hour. I live in a suburb of Osaka and can access Osaka and Kyoto easily to introduce any residential areas in those cities.

In old days, we call them, Osaka for work and eat, Kyoto for visit and Kobe for live. But thing has been changed a lots recently. While population have been declined, Osaka has been developed dramatically with so many new tall buildings and new business and Kyoto are full of foreign tourists all around year with attraction of the Japanese traditions and atomosphere
